Prevent Going Past Lesson
Sets an upper limit past which a student cannot progress. By default, this setting is disabled, allowing students to progress through all 34 lessons. You can choose to disable or choose the lesson to prevent students from going past.

Start at Lesson
Sets the specific lesson the student will start at without completing the previous lessons. By default, this setting is disabled. To enable this setting, you must first turn off the Pre-Test requirement (or make it Optional) in Assessment Settings.

Security Check Options
Accuracy requirement for the Security Check (Step 2 of Lesson Instruction).

  • 100% accuracy required, errors return user to beginning
  • Errors allowed, but can’t proceed until type correct key (Default)

Reference Hand Support
Animated hand support during instruction. By default, this setting is ON.

Allow student to skip to final Challenge
Allows students to attempt the Final Challenge for a lesson without completing the lesson instruction. By default, this setting is OFF. This allows more advanced students to proceed through lessons much quicker by “testing out” of a lesson if they pass the Final Challenge right away.

“Younger” Lessons A to B
Lessons A & B introduce students to the keyboard, but do not teach touch-typing. By default, Lessons A & B are only on for students in grades K-2.

Skip Lesson 29 and 30 on Numeric Keypad
Lessons 29 & 30 focus on the Numeric Keypad and students will not be able to successfully complete lessons without a Numeric Keypad on the keyboard they are using. If your keyboards do not have a number pad you have the option to skip these lessons. By default, these lessons are ON.

The WPM and Accuracy goals can be changed or customized to help with individualized learning. By default, and it is our recommendation, that this is set to “Use Assessment Goals”.

  • Use Assessment Goals:
    Type to Learn sets the initial goals based on the Pre-Test results. After each Assessment, progress is evaluated and goals are adjusted up to match the Assessment results if those results exceeded the student’s goals. Goals are never adjusted down automatically.
  • Use Grade Goals:
    These goals are pre-determined depending on the student’s current grade level and do not change throughout the program unless their Grade level is changed on their user profile.

    • Grades K-2: 6 WPM and 60% Accuracy
    • Grades 3-6: 15 WPM and 85% Accuracy
    • Grades 7-12: 20 WPM and 90% Accuracy
  • Manually Set Words Per Minute and Accuracy Goals:
    This allows teachers and admins to set custom goals for Groups or individual students. This is very helpful for customizing the learning experience for advanced or struggling students.

A Note About Goal Minimums:

In order to pass any task in the program, students must at least meet their goal minimums. The goal minimum is automatically set by the program to be -10% Accuracy below the student’s goals. Therefore if a student’s goals are 20 WPM and 90% accuracy, they can still pass a task by achieving 80% accuracy.

Important: As of April 2023, Big Ideas is the one Activity that does not include a Goal minimum. Students must meet or exceed their Accuracy goal in order to pass Big Ideas.

The purpose of goal minimums is to avoid frustration and to prevent students from getting stuck on any given lesson or assessment for too long. If a student does not hit the goal minimums, a remediation lesson is automatically provided and the task must be repeated and passed. Think of hitting the goals as an A+ grade students should strive for. Goal minimums are like a B grade that is still a passing grade.
